SASSA has released the schedule for social grant payments for July 2023, including those for disabled and older persons.
The SA Social Security Agency (SASSA) allocates different payment dates for different grant categories in light of social distancing requirements designed to curb COVID-19 infections.
SASSA selects different dates to avoid situations in which ATMs, banks, post offices or SASSA offices are overcrowded.
SASSA payment dates for July 2023
Payment dates for social grants for July 2023 are as follows:
|Older persons’ grants
|4 July 2023
|5 July 2023
|6 July 2023
SASSA has consistently urged grant beneficiaries not to withdraw money immediately after the grant becomes available. Because funds will remain in the account until they are eventually withdrawn, they cannot be withdrawn early.
The grant application deadline was 30 April, while appeals were on 31 May. Those who have appealed have been assured they will receive a payment if their appeal is successful. Payments will be made in the month when the application was submitted.
As of the end of this financial year, 18 million people will receive social grants, resulting in SASSA spending R195 billion on grants. The Department of Social Development (DSD) spends 95% of its budget on social grants.
SASSA was established in 2005 to distribute social grants on behalf of the Department of Social Development. To improve the standard of living in the country, these grants are given to people who are at risk of poverty and/or need government assistance.
There are many grants SASSA distributes, including the Care Dependency Grant, Child Support Grant, Disability Grant, Foster Child Grant, Old Persons Grant, War Veteran’s Grant, Grant-In-Aid, and the ever-popular Social Relief Of Distress Grant.
